Casio celebrates Back to the Future with a new DeLorean watch

Back to the Future, Casio

Casio marks the 40th anniversary of the iconic Back to the Future film with a new calculator watch inspired by Marty McFly’s time-traveling adventures.

The new Casio x Back to the Future 40th Anniversary CA-500WEBF-1A pays tribute to 1980s futurism and the film’s cult status. While Michael J. Fox famously wore the classic black Casio CA-53 in the movie trilogy, this anniversary edition is crafted from chrome-plated resin and steel – a clear nod to the DeLorean DMC-12’s stainless-steel body and retro-futuristic design.

DeLorean details and VHS nostalgia

Casio has embraced the cinematic theme in full. The digital display features the phrase “OUTATIME since 1985,” referencing the DeLorean’s legendary license plate, along with graphics inspired by the car’s time circuits used to enter dates for past and future travel. The caseback is engraved with the flux capacitor – the heart of Doc Brown’s time machine – while the bracelet clasp bears the official Back to the Future logo.

Even the packaging is a trip through time: the watch arrives in a box styled like a vintage VHS cassette, complete with a printed outer sleeve that instantly evokes 1980s home-video nostalgia.

Classic Casio tech, timeless appeal

Behind the nostalgic façade lies Casio’s 3558 module – a digital quartz movement that has remained in production since the 1980s. It includes dual time display, stopwatch, alarm, full auto-calendar and, of course, the iconic calculator function. Casio hasn’t altered the recipe that has worked perfectly for four decades.

A piece of movie history for your wrist

Although slightly more expensive than the standard CA-53W, the anniversary model remains one of the most affordable ways to wear a piece of Hollywood history. Its mix of retro charm, functionality and subtle movie references makes it a collectible for both Back to the Future fans and vintage enthusiasts alike.

The watch will be released in limited quantities in select markets – including Australia on November 6, 2025 – priced at around AUD 300 (approximately DKK 1,350).

With the Casio x Back to the Future 40th Anniversary CA-500WEBF-1A, Casio proves that even a digital calculator watch can capture nostalgia, humor and cinematic heritage in equal measure. As Doc Brown would say: “If you’re gonna build a time machine… why not do it with style?”
